आज समाज में अपराध और बुराइयां दिखाई देती हैं। नैतिक मूल्यों का पतन हो रहा है। हर व्यक्ति स्वार्थ से गिरा है। उसका मूल कारण प्रेम का न होना है। हिंसा, द्वेष, वैमनस्य, शत्रुता आदि विकारों का उद्भव भी प्रेम के अभाव में होता है। प्रेम सुखी जीवन का आधार है। प्रेम के अनेक रूप होते हैं- मातृ प्रेम, पारिवारिक प्रेम, ईश्वर प्रेम, देश प्रेम आदि। प्रेम का रुप चाहे कोई भी हो, वह प्रगाढ़ और मधुर संबंधों को बनाने वाला है। प्रेम के कारण ही समाज व राष्ट्र प्रगति करते हैं और अनेक समस्याएं स्वतः सुलझ जाती हैं। दो समुदाय, समाज या राष्ट्र प्रेम के कारण ही एक दूसरे से जुड़ते हैं।
किसी समस्या का हल ही प्रेम से ही निकल सकता है। क्रोध या झगड़े से नहीं। समाज में फैली संप्रदायिकता, भेदभाव, द्वेष, शत्रुता, आतंकवाद आदि को यदि मिटाना है तो सबसे पहले लोगों में एक दूसरे के प्रति प्रेम का भाव उत्पन्न करना होगा। समाज और राष्ट्र भी तभी प्रगति कर सकते हैं और अपना अस्तित्व बनाए रख सकते हैं। जब आपसी संबंध सुदृढ़ हो और एक दूसरे के प्रति त्याग की भावना और यह सब एक चीज से संभव है, वह है प्रेम।
